Drewniana Róża

About us

Drewniana Róża — a family place at the end of the valley in Michałowice

Drewniana Róża, that is apartments in an old wooden villa and cabins by the pond in Michałowice in the Karkonosze Mountains, was created by Ania and Piotrek. They chose the far end of the valley: no neighbours, no new development, but forest all around and the kind of space families with children usually search for in the mountains in vain. To this day we are the ones who pick up the phone, bake the cake and heat the sauna for you.

About the etching's author

Hugo Dittrich (1880–1943) — A painter who worked in Lubawka and Michałowice in Lower Silesia. Like many artists who settled in the Karkonosze in the 19th and 20th centuries, he painted landscapes — his work has a realistic, matter-of-fact style.

The soul of the place

Drewniana Róża simply means a pinecone

“Drewniana Róża” is an old, noble term for a pinecone — a symbol of strength, nature and harmony. It's hard to imagine a better emblem for a home standing right in the middle of a spruce forest, looking towards the Śnieżne Kotły for generations.

That's why every apartment and every cabin carries the name of a conifer that bears pinecones. Not a number, not a letter — a name:

Cedr · Cis · Jałowiec · Szyszka · Jodła · Świerk · Sosna · Cyprys · Daglezja · Modrzewnik · Tuja

The same idea holds the whole place together: wood, linen, brass, candlelight, and a silence in which you can hear the wind in the treetops.

The crew

Who's waiting for you

People

Ania and Piotrek, Olek and Tosia, and with them the two Anias, Kinga, Tetiana and Karolina, who together with Ania will take care of your unforgettable moments in the Leśne SPA. The whole of Drewniana Róża fits into these seven names and nine people — and we're the ones who answer the phone, bake the cake, prepare the treatments and massages, heat up the sauna for you and get the rooms and apartments ready for your arrival.

Dogs

Amok, Roxi, Reksio and Jerry. They'll greet you at the gate, walk you to your cabin, and be genuinely convinced that you're just heading out for a walk — unless they happen not to be around, because with them it varies: sometimes they're here, sometimes they're not.

Cat

Prezent — strong-willed to the bone. He used to come and say hello when he decided it was time, and not a moment sooner. Today he is in cat heaven. We remember him, and his place on this page stays — and perhaps one day a new Prezent will appear here.

Wild animals

They visit the valley at dawn and dusk. Best watched from the terrace, quietly, with a mug of something warm in your hands.
